Manipuri Language Day widely observed

Remembering the day when Manipuri language was included in the Eight Schedule of the Indian Constitution, Manipuri Language Day Celebration Committee, Imphal on Thursday marked 24th Manipuri Language Day on the theme "Manipur Kansi, Manipuri Lon Hinghansi" at Lamyanba Sanglen in Palace Compound.
President of Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, Imphal Prof Thoidingjam Tombi, President of Cultural Forum Manipur, Prof Naorem Khagendra, President of Naharol Sahitya Premee Samiti Imphal, Prof Polem Nabachandra, President of Manipuri Language Development Committee Imphal, Leihaobam Saratchandra, President of Writers Forum Imphal, L Biramani, vice president of Leimarol Khorjeikol (Leikol) Manipur, Prof N Aruna, President of Manipur State Sumang Leela Council Phurailatpam Gunachandra Sharma, president of Manipuri Literary Society, Imphal Dr Sagolshem Lanchenba Meetei attended the function as presidium members.
Meanwhile, Patriotic Writer's Forum Manipur and KM Blooming Higher Secondary School also jointly observed the day at MMRC and Unity Park at Khangabok in Thoubal district.
Former Station Director of DDK Dibrugarh, Shagolsem Indrakumar, founder Chairperson of KM Blooming Higher Secondary School, Ch Rajkentan, Assistant Prof Kha Manipur College, Raghu Leisangthem, Sahitya Academy Awardee and columnist OC Meira attended the observation function on the dais.
OC Meira spoke on the role of print media in developing the Manipuri language while Dr Chirom Rajketan talked on the role of Manipuri language in developing the Manipuri society.
All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) also observed the 24th Manipuri Language Day at AMSU Headquarter, DM College Campus.
Former President of AMSU, Sinam Prakash, Secretary General of NESO, Khamba Laishram, Former President of AMSU, Sanasam Subhachandra attended the function as presidium members.
