Imphal, January 20 2024:
Peace and Integrity Committee Kyamgei (PICK) convenor Chingakham Meghachandra has demanded the government to make it clear to the public what action it has taken up against the Kuki militants who have humiliated the country by challenging one of the important agendas of the G20-summit of protecting the environment.
In a press meet held at Kyamgei Pal Ahanbi on Saturday, Meghachandra observed that there is use of chemical warfare in the Ukraine-Russia conflict.
Manipur was one of the venues for the G20 summit for which India was the host.
One of the important agendas of the summit was protection of the environment.
However, the narco-terrorists are humiliating the country by violating the agenda of the summit.
As such, both the union and state governments need to answer what action they have taken up in this regard or the reason for lack of any, he demanded.
He continued that the narco terrorists are attacking security forces in Moreh with weapons of war, prompting officers of many central forces to raise the alarm of involvement of external forces.
However, the government continues to feign ignorance.
Videos of mass cultivation of poppies in Sinakeithel are being circulated on social media, which raises a question on whether the central forces are in the state to safeguard the people or ensure a successful poppy harvest.
Stating that the people of Manipur are suffering because of participating in the union government's move to protect the environment, Meghachandra remarked that the 50 MLAs in the state are divided and busy trolling each other.
If these continue, then they would soon face the wrath of the people, he warned.
Narrating the details of Takhellambam Manoranjan's murder by Kuki militants in Kangchup area, as heard from the locals, Meghachandra informed that central forces conducted a search operation in the area twice on January 16-17.This indicates that central forces are driving away the village volunteers so that such attacks could be carried out.
In the case of the Ningthoukhong killings, central forces patrolled the area shortly before the four people were killed by the Kuki militants.
This shows that central forces are deeply involved in all of the killings, he asserted.
He then said that the national leaders of BJP, during their visits to Manipur, claimed that the country is more important than the party.
However, with regard to Manipur, the party seems to be the priority.
The state BJP leaders should make it clear to the people when will they urged the central government to replace the chairman of the unified command.
The government should understand it clearly that the people's anger is at the limit, he remarked.
All Kyamgei Chaokhat Thourang Lup vice president Moirangthem Sobita strongly condemned the brutal killing of Takhellambam Manoranjan of Thiyam Konjil by Kuki militants.
She questioned the powers given to the central forces, while asking if the true desire of the government is the exter mination of the Meetei community.
Meanwhile, PICK along with the locals of Kyamgei blocked the Indo-Burma Road in support of the bandh called by the JAC against the killing of Manoranjan.
However, movement of essential services were exempted.
