Onus on mothers to help kids overcome fear: Prof Rajmuhon

Expressing concern over the mental trauma being experienced by young children displaced by the ongoing crisis and taking refuge in relief camps, Dhanamanjuri University (DMU) vice-chancellor professor N Rajmuhon has emphasised the crucial role of mothers in aiding the children tide over the fear and trauma by keeping them calm.
He was speaking as chief guest of a "one-day event for displaced children (3-8 years) staying in relief camps in Imphal" held at GP Women's College, here, on Sunday.
GP Women's College, department of home science and Mother's Care Children Hospital and Research Centre (MCCHRC) jointly organised the programme under the aegis of DMU and social welfare department.
Speaking on the occasion, professor Rajmuhon highlighted the trauma gripping the young minds and the need for keeping them calm while guiding them to the right direction.
Mothers have crucial role to play in assuaging fear and keeping calm their children.
They could also tell their children inspirational stories or anecdotes of successful people and assure them that the present challenges are only temporary, he stressed, while also emphasising the importance of good foods and nutrition to keep the children healthy and fit.
GP Women's College principal professor Tamphasana Rajkumari presided over the function while DM College of Science principal professor M Bhubaneshwari and MCCHRC chairman cum managing director Dr Khumanthem Ratankumar attended as guests of honour.
A souvenir was also released as part of the event.
In the technical session, RIMS psychiatry department's Dr RK Lenin spoke on 'Taking care of mental health of the tiny minds in the current turmoil in the state'.
Dr Kh Ratankumar, social welfare director Ngangom Uttam and CDPO Chandel Pratibha Khoyumthem spoke on the topics related to 'nutrition and developmental disorders' .
RIMS infection control department's nurses Ng Sobita and K Monika also spoke on 'hand hygiene and health' .
