Imphal, November 19 2021:
Lilong Municipal Council Ward 4 ex-councillor Maibam Joykumar has been making maximum efforts to transform the 1km long road stretch from Regional College, Lilong to Chajing Awang Leikai a neat and beautiful place by planting around 500 yellow pine trees without any help from the government since the past five years.
During an interaction with The People's Chronicle, Maibam Joykumar said that the yellow pine trees were planted with the main objective of creating awareness among the people to stop dumping garbage and wastes on roadsides and make the road stretch neat and clean.
Planting of yellow pine saplings began from the year 2016 and most of the saplings are now fully grown and attractive, he said and appealed to people to collectively make the area a beautiful place by keeping the surrounding neat and clean all the time.
He also said that yellow pine saplings dug out by people to plant the same in their homes will be replanted and plantation of more saplings in other areas will begin soon.
While stating that street lamps have been installed along the road stretch apart from putting radium stickers for convenience of movement during night time, Joykumar said that permanent radium posts would be erected in near future as children often remove radium sticker inadvertently.
He then urged the people to support and help in his endeavour of making the road stretch beautiful and attractive.
