Imphal, September 19 2024:
Thoubal District United Women's Development Organisation vice president Khumukcham Memma has demanded that authority concerned award stringiest punishment to Thokchom Sanju alias Ibungo (25) s/o Thokchom Maimu Singh of Chajing Khunou, Sugnu, Kakching district, who allegedly tried to sexually assault and murder a young girl of the same locality.
Addressing the media at Manipur Press Club, here, on Thursday, Memma recounted that on July 24 last year, Sanju tried to sexually assault a young girl in his neighbour's house around 9 pm but fled the scene after stabbing her with a pair of scissors as the girl resisted.
The stabbing incident left the young victim differently-abled.
After due process of law, Sanju was produced before the court and sent to jail.
However, as per reports, he was released on bail two-three months ago and his whereabouts is currently unknown.
As such, Memma appealed to all sections of the public not to shelter the alleged rapist, while urging authority concerned to award befitting punishment to the accused.
The Organisation will extend all possible help in ensuring justice is served, she assured.
