Senapati, July 18 2024:
Responding to the directives of the district's SP, Senapati District Students' Association (SDSA) has strongly urged authorities to dismantle the unauthorised checkpoint established near Kanglatongbi in Gamgiphai.
Operational for over a year, the checkpoint has caused serious inconvenience to commuters and eroded the rule of law, the student body said.
SDSA also raised concerns over the perceived inaction of law enforcement agencies despite repeated appeals and criticised the police for failing to ensure the safety and security of travellers along the highway, while urging for preventing all forms of harassment and disruption persisting for over a year.
Previously, SDSA had called upon Kuki CSOs to dismantle checkpoints targeting only Naga citizens along the highway.
Despite allowing ample time for a response, no action was taken, prompting the SDSA to impose an economic embargo on the Kuki community in protest.
SDSA now urged authorities concerned to take immediate action to resolve the issue and restore peace and order in the region.
