AR carries forward its go green drive

Taking forward the "Go Green Drive" Campaign of saving and regenerating the depleting flora in Manipur, launched by the IGAR (South) on 08 Jun 2014, the cadets of NCC group Headquaters, Imphal on 18th Jul 14 contributed to this noble effort by planting 800 saplings in the area of Mantripukhri and nearby villages.
According to a statement issued by PRO IGAR (S), Major General Rajeev Chopra, IG AR (South), Brigadier S K Kalra group commander NCC group HQ Imphal were present during the plantation drive, while the enthusiastic cadets planted variety of trees to include fruit beaming and ornamental trees.
The enthusiasm on the young faces, to save our environment by planting tree saplings was worth emulating by every citizen.
A pledge was also taken by all the members of the NCC cadets fraternity to promote planting of trees towards a greener and an environment friendly Manipur.
Speaking on the occasion, Major General Rajeev Chopra, IG AR (South) said that it is a matter of concern that the forest cover in Manipur is depleting rapidly and regeneration has not yet reached a satisfactory level.
He added that the plantation drive is a small but an important measure towards a greener and environment friendly Manipur and role of youths in this enderour is most important.
In another effort, 41 Assam Rifles of 10 Sector AR under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) has undertaken a massive plantation drive at Siruhi Kashung wef 07 Jul 2014. A total of 3000 saplings have been planted till date.
This 'Go Green Drive' is being carried out with an aim to arrest deforestation and control the depleting water level at Siruhi, the major water source.
It is an initiative by the Assam Rifles along with the civil administration.
Negotiating harsh terrain and adverse weather the troops of the Assam Rifles, true to the motto 'Friends of Hill People' covered the barren patches, the PRO added.
