Senapati gets KPKB service, CCpur 'canteen on wheels'

A new Kendriya Police Kalyan Bhandar was opened in Senapati district on Tuesday, with Senapati additional deputy commissioner Nimmi Azingwungshi Khamrang, SDO Lunguiba Thangal (Senapati & Purul), 109 Battalion CRPF commandant Govind Prasad Uniyal along with second-in-command Anil Kumar and assistant commandant A Visapunii of B Company attending the opening event.
This initiative, taken up by the 109 Battalion, aims to provide essential daily commodities at subsidised rates to the district's residents amidst Ongoing unrest over the past 16 months.
Notably, Union Minister Amit Shah announced on Monday that the Ministry of Home Affairs would open 16 new Kendriya Police Kalyan Bhandars across Manipur starting Tuesday.
These stores, which include one in Senapati, are intended to offer essential goods at affordable prices, with eight located in the valley and the remaining eight in the hills, supplementing the existing 21 such facilities in the state.
The Kendriya Police Kalyan Bhandar (KPKB) system was launched as a welfare measure by MHA in 2006.Serving and retired personnel of central armed police forces, central police organisations and state police forces and their family members across India are the beneficiaries of KPKB.
The items'at the KPKB are cheaper than the market rate.
In Churachandpur district, 58 Battalion CRPF Kangvai organised a "canteen on wheels" on the same day at Torbung Bazar with the stated objective to promote good rapport with the local community in the buffer zone areas, who have faced significant challenges in accessing daily essentials since the outbreak of violence in the state.
The mobile canteen has provided considerable relief to the residents, prompting them to express a desire for more such programmes to address their ongoing issues.
John Vaiphei, a resident of Torbung village, called for the need for regular community initiatives.
Mani G Nair, second-in-command 58 BN CRPF Kangvai, highlighted that the canteen offered essential items such as soap, toothpaste, detergent powder, food items, and others at greatly reduced prices, in accordance with directives from the Ministry of Home Affairs.
