Imphal, July 17 2015 :
Manipur People's Party (MPP) chose to absent itself from the All-Political Party meeting held on July 16 as it doubted the honesty and sincerity of the State Government on the ILP issue.
This was said by MPP president N Sovakiran in a press meet on Friday.
He further blamed the State Government for taking help of all the political parties when it does not have any options left.
The party also condemned the Government for registering Robinhood as an accused instead of a victim in a police FIR.
Sovakiran said, "Legal experts, seasoned politicians, former CMs, intellectuals, etc had given their recommendations over a span of five months to the all-party committee that was formed for drafting the Bill.
However, instead of incorporating the recommendations, the State Government came out with an ILP Bill that did not contain a single recommendation endorsed by the other parties, thereby making the Bill a pure 'Congress' handiwork.
The present widespread agitation is a result of the Government's grave mistake" .
He justified MPP's absence from the All-Political Party meeting saying the party doubted the sincerity of the Manipur Government on the issue.
The party has always been standing for protecting the territorial integrity of Manipur and its indigenous people, added Sovakiran.
He also demanded the State Government to come out with a pro-indigenous people Bill at the earliest.
The MPP president also strongly condemned the incident in which police personnel allegedly killed Sapam Robinhood, a Class XI student of Ananda Singh Higher Secondary School, during a democratic ILP protest.
The parents of the deceased sought a copy of the FIR from the OC of Porompat PS and also from Manipur DGP, but the request was not complied with.
But after Court's intervention, the copy was given to the parents.
What is really unfortunate is naming Robinhood as an 'accused' in the incident, and not as a victim.
Also attending at the press meet was MPP advisor Dr L Chandramani.
He said, "The absence of MPP and BJP from the All-Political Party meeting was a very deserving response given to the present State Government.
Deputy CM Gaikhangam earlier had appreciated all the recommendations made by the All-Political Party Committee, whereas those suggestions were not respected while drafting the Bill.
Implementing ILP will not mean banning the entry of outsiders, but it's about protecting our indigenous people," he said.
The MPP leaders also warned that branding Robinhood as an accused in the incident will further aggravate the current situation.
On the other hand, the leaders of MPP greeted the people of State, especially the Meitei-Pangals, on the occasion of Id-ul Fitr festival to be held on July 18 (Saturday) .
