WAD condemns sexual assault on minor girls

Imphal, June 16 2021:
Women Action for Development (WAD) has strongly condemned the recent brutality committed on minor girls at Moreh and Nagamapal by two men.
With regard to the Moreh incident, Moreh police personnel have arrested one M Touthang of Moreh Ward No II while Imphal police rounded up one Rupesh Kumar Singh in connection with the sexual assault on another minor girl at Nagamapal, noted a release issued by WAD secretary M Sobita.
While commending the swift action of both Moreh and Imphal police stations for arresting the culprits so that due process of law could be initiated in the best interest of the public, WAD also conveyed gratitude to the doctors for providing medical assistance to the victims at this critical juncture of Covid-19 pandemic and also for reporting the matter to the police station concerned providing the necessary evidences to take legal action against the culprits.
WAD then appealed to the District Child Protection Units (DCPU), Child Welfare Committees (CWC) and Social Welfare Department to release the interim compensation as mandated under POCSO Act 2012 for the victims so as to ensure proper medical attention and other requirement.
WAD further urged DCPUs and CWCs to provide multiple counselling to both the victims and their family members until the justice is served and also appealed the Courts concerned to convict the culprits at the earliest.
