Imphal, September 15 2022:
Villagers have drawn the attention of the state government towards the need of developing Naamai Zho Biodiversity Park to attract more tourists as well as to increase income generation activities for the people.
Naamai Zho Biodiversity Park, which is located about 8 km east of Maram Market, at Naamai (Koide) village under Purul sub-division in Senapati district was opened in 2020 at a time when state was facing Covid-19 pandemic.
The locals said that people visited the park to see widespread flowering of cosmos flowers and its beautiful landscape.
The park is visited by thousands of tourists, including from other states, every year especially during the flowering time in October.
The park which spreads over 50 acres is presently being developed and run by Naamai Eco Tourism Society (NETS) under the sponsorship of Senapati Forest Division.
Though the park is attracting tourists in droves it still can be developed further, while the road connecting the park from Maram Market is in a very bad condition.
Speaking to media persons on Wednesday, Koide Union former general secretary RY Dahe mentioned that villagers of the all the six villages of Koide had developed the park at the time of Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 as they had no other employment opportunities.
If the park is developed to its full potential, it will boost the economy of the villagers.
The park is now drawing tourists not only from Manipur but also from Nagaland.
It has many areas that can be further improved and NETS has been taking up necessary steps to make it a tourist destination.
Thus, RY Dahe urged the state government to develop the park as part of its ecotourism projects in the state.
On the other hand, the road connectivity to the park is in deplorable state, due to which many are wary of coming to the park.
Hence, the government must immediately look into it and ensure that the park is developed in all aspects, he reiterated.
