Discourse on farmers' issues held

Human Rights Law Network (Manipur) in association with Human Rights Alerts (HRA) and Loumee Sinmee Apunba Lup (LOUSAL), Manipur organised a one-day discussion programme on the topic of 'Farmer's Issues in Manipur' at the conference hall of Diocesan Social Service Society, Mantripukhri on Saturday.
Manipur State Commission for Protection of Child Rights ex-member Keisham Pradipkumar acted as the moderator, while Mutum Churamani spoke on the topic of 'Problem Faced by Fanners in Manipur'; Babloo Loitongbam on 'Inability of the State Government to Provide Adequate Fertiliser to the Farmers'; Ramandana Wangkheirakpam on 'Impact of Plantation of Palm Oil Tree to the Environment in Manipur' ; and Prof M Premjit on 'Ways and Means to Improve Agricultural Products in Manipur' as resource persons.
During the programme, various resolutions were adopted including formulation of a holistic agricultural policy for the state; setting up a strong Farmers' Union to address the issues faced by the farmers; for the state government to buy the agricultural and horticultural products at minimum procurement price, and for the rice produced in the state to be procured at minimum procurement price to be distributed through a targeted public distribution system.
