Poppy plantations destroyed, drugs seized, six arrested

Security forces continue their efforts to eradicate poppy plantations in various locations across the state, leading to the arrest of multiple individuals, including two caught in the act of cultivating poppies.
On December 12, a joint team of Manipur police, forest department and Assam Rifles scythed around 110 acres of poppy plantation, which was being cultivated along Khamasom Chingsang Pareng under Ukhrul PS.
The team also set fire to around 8 makeshift huts in the area.
Earlier, Manipur police had conducted an operation along the same hill range on December 7 and arrested four poppy cultivators.
Efforts have been taken up to identify and nab the remaining cultivators.
Meanwhile, a team of Manipur police destroyed around 10 acres of plantation found growing in Molhal village under Kasom Khullen PS on December 12 and also arrested two poppy cultivators identified as Pamchuingam Rimai (30) and Lifeson Lanjha (27) of Leikoiching village.
The team also recovered one knife and one side bag from his possession.
An FIR has been registered against the duo and further investigation is underway.
On other hand, a combined team of Churachandpur police, 36 Assam Rifles, Churachandpur Forest division and NAB in the presence of the executive magistrate destroy illicit poppy cultivation, spanning an area of 5.7 acres at Thinghangjang area under Tuibuong Sub-division on Saturday.
While no arrests were made, legal proceedings are underway, a source informed.
Meanwhile, a team of Senapati district police seized around 5.87kg of brown sugar from a residence in Chiphaodai village in Khabung Karong under Senapati PS on December 12 .
The team also arrested four people in regard to the seizures.
As per a police report, the brown sugar was seized from the residence of one N Sohrii (40) daughter of Nasii Zhoh of Chiphaodai village.
The drug was found packed inside 150 soap cases.
After investigation, the team arrested Khovi (27) son of Dakho, Raivikho (23) son of Ngaokhaini, Lovi (24) son of Dahrii and Veipoukho (23) son of Kho of Chingmai Khullen under Tungjoy PS.
A case has been registered and further investigation is underway.
