Attack in Jiri, shutdown in Imphal valley

Imphal, November 13 2024:
Armed Kuki militants continued to target the Meetei community in Jiribam district, launching another major gun and bomb attack on Mong-bung Meetei village late Wednesday evening, marking the latest in a series of attacks over the past few days.
The attack started from around 9 pm on Wednesday, with the armed Kuki militants targeting the village with heavy gunfire and explosives, which the state forces deployed in the area retaliated.
However, there is no report of casualty on either side.
The latest attack followed similar offensives in the past few days, with reports of intermittent firing by the armed Kuki militants towards Meetei villages.
Villagers also observed a growing presence of Kuki militants around Mongbung village, heightening concerns about ongoing security threats.
Meanwhile, normal life was affected to a large extent on Wednesday owing to the total shutdown imposed by 13 CSOs in protest against the abduction of three children and same number of women by Kuki militants in Jiribam.
Business establishments, educational institutions and banks in the valley districts were closed due to the shutdown which ended at 6 pm Wednesday, as the CSOs announced impromptu imposition of the shutdown during media briefing on Tuesday evening.
Roads wore deserted look with both private and inter-district public transportation opting to cease service while government offices recorded negligible attendance.
However, no untoward incident was reported during the shutdown.
The shutdown was called by International Peace And Social Advancement (IPSA), Peoples' Action for National Democratic Movement (PANDM), Kangleipak Apunba Meira Paibi Lup (Kanglamei), All Clubs Organisation Association & Meira Paibi Lup (ACOAM-Lup), Kangleipak Students' Association (KSA), Indigenous People s Association of Kangleipak (IPAK), Chanura Lamchinglel Kangleipak (CLK), Kanglei Ima Lup (KIL), Loumee Yaipha Lup Kangleipak (LOYALUP), Educational and Rural Development Organisation (ERDO), Malem Ima Kanba Lup (MIKL), Struggling Women's Association (SWA), and Apunba Keithel Sinnaibi Lup (AKSIL) .
