Man mediating quarrel shot dead by sibling

Thoubal, October 13 2024:
One Sapam Swaminath (47) s/o Sapam Ibomcha of Thoubal Ningombam Singam Leirak got killed after his younger brother identified as Sapam Sumorjit (38) opened fire from licensed firearm while trying to pacify heated argument between Sumorjit and his wife on Saturday evening.
Swaminath was principal of Anandapurna Higher Secondary School, Thoubal while the accused Sumorjit (38) works as a private security guard at the Axis Bank, Thoubal branch.
According to police report, the incident occurred around 9:10 pm.
As Sumorjit and his wife started quarrelling Swaminath intervened to stop them.
However, Sumorjit brought his double-barrel gun to shoot at Swaminath, who despite being rushed to Raj Medicity succumbed to excessive bleeding on the way.
The victim suffered multiple pellet injuries in the chest and abdomen area.
Meanwhile, body of Swaminath has been handed over to the family for conduct of the last rites.
The mortal remains were brought to Anandapurna Higher Secondary School where students and teachers paid their last respects by offering floral tributes.
Family members, along with students, teaching and non-teaching staff of the school, also observed two minutes' silence in honour of the departed soul.
The body has been deposited at JNIMS mortuary for post-mortem and Sumorjit taken into custody by Thoubal police.
