AR nabs PREPAK duo; SFs seize weapons

Assam Rifles claimed to have apprehended two active cadres of the proscribed People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) in separate operations along the Indo-Myanmar border in Tengnoupal district.
Acting on specific intelligence about the movement of insurgents between Kwatha and H Mongjang in Tengnoupal district on September 11, troops laid an ambush in the area.
During the operation, they spotted suspicious movement in the jungle and quickly blocked escape routes, resulting in the apprehension of one individual.
Upon interrogation, the detainee confessed to being affiliated with the insurgent group PREPAK, said PRO IGAR (S) in release issued Friday.
The PRO also informed that on the same day, Assam Rifles conducted another operation around the Point 422 along the Indo-Myanmar border near Moreh leading to the capture of a second insurgent from a nullah in the jungle.
The individual disclosed his affiliation with the insurgent group PREPAK, having joined in April 2024 .
Both insurgents have been handed over to Manipur Police for further legal proceedings, the release added.
Meanwhile, Indian Army conducted an extensive 48-hour joint operation with Manipur Police, CRPF and BSF, leading to the recovery of significant quantities of arms, ammunition and other warlike stores in Churachandpur district.
According to a press of PRO Defence issued on Thursday, acting on specific intelligence, on September 11, the Army, along with Manipur Police and CRPF, recovered a 7.62mm AK series assault rifle with a magazine, three medium-sized improvised mortars (pumpi), and additional warlike materials in Maulsang area of Churachandpur district.
On September 12, in a densely forested area southwest of Shejang in Kangpokpi district, the Army, in coordination with the Manipur Police and BSF, successfully recovered a modified M-16 rifle, a 7.5-foot homemade rocket, a large homemade mortar, ammunition, and other warlike materials, said the PRO, adding that the recovered items have been handed over to the police for further investigation and disposal.
