Imphal, July 13 2021:
Authorities have begun releasing the water from Dolaithabi Barrage in Imphal East to meet the water shortage faced by farmers especially Khundrakpam AC owing to rainfall shortage.
On Tuesday, a combined team of Khundrakpam Kendra Development Committee (KKDC) and department officials inspected the canal during which EE M Rakesh said that the water was released to meet the water requirement of rabi crops till Keibi Kumuda area.
Efforts are on to ensure adequate water supply in Wakhong, Uyumpok, Lamboikhul and Keibi areas during the current Kharif crop season.
The EE then said that the inspection will assess all means to resolve the stoppage of water at Uyumpok Mamang Leikai area and ensure proper supply.
He urged the people to only use the required volume of water, as any more than this could lead to flash floods.
He also assured that the water will soon reach the areas located on the backside of the canal, namely Sagolmang, Yumnam Patlou, Ishing Thembi, Yumnam Khunou and Sambei routes.
Meanwhile, KKDC spokesperson N Dijen appreciated the government for looking after the locals of Khundrakpam AC and also extended encouragement to the farmers spending the nights at DAO Porompat to buy fertilisers in strict adherence to Covid-19 SOP.
He then urged for disbursing the pending compensation for acquisition of paddy fields to construct the canal, while further urging the government to
formulate a policy with regard to the fertiliser issue.
