Jiribam, June 13 2024:
Janata Dal (United) Manipur vice president Oinam Nabakishore has stated that chief minister N Biren should translate into action assurances given to the public to punish those involved in the attack on the advance security convoy despatched for his visit to Jiribam and arson on Meetei houses.
Speaking to media persons after a team of JD (U) Manipur visited relief camps opened in the district and distributing essential items on Thursday, Nabakishore assured that the party is with the people affected by the recent eruption of ethnic clashes in Jiribam which remained unaffected by the conflict that broke out on May 3, last.
He reiterated that CM N Biren should put his words into action and deploy additional state forces in violence-hit areas of Jiribam, which till now has not been done.
Noting that the state forces have only been deployed in Jiribam town area, Nabakishore opined that concentration of the state forces in limited pockets till now is the primary reason for Jiribam denizens facing threat to their lives and properties from consistent attacks of armed Kuki militants.
Moreover, the recent escalation of clashes has stranded vehicles loaded with essential supplies in Jiribam as movement along the Imphal-Jiribam road has ceased.
If these goods vehicles remain stuck, then drivers would face many adversities, not to speak of the rising prices of goods in Imphal.
Hence, it is paramount that the government take measure to ensure resumption of normal traffic along the NH 37 at the earliest possible, he pointed out.
Meanwhile, JD (U) Manipur vice president Dr Kh Loken, who was also part of the visiting team, mentioned that the party will very soon take steps to resolve the ongoing conflict in the state after consulting with national leaders.
Mainly, it will work to meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in consultation with JD(U) ministers, who are part of the newly formed NDA government, to end the crisis in the state at the earliest.
