Govt to Ink MoU with Infosys
Source: Chronicle News Service

Imphal, June 13 2022: While informing that the state government will be signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with IT giant Infosys for a project worth Rs 24 crore, education minister Th Basantakumar has revealed that talks have been finalised with the India head of Infosys.

A 4-day Science, Mathematics and Environment Exhibition organised for students by the Science Unit of Education (S) Department on the topic of 'Technology and Toys' concluded at Johnstone Higher Secondary School here on Monday.

Stressing on the importance of education while speaking at the valedictory function, Th Basantakumar observed that the state education department needs a system rectification to address the issue of shortage of teachers in schools across the state, particularly in the most vulnerable schools.

Schools should work to prevent dropouts, apart from producing a number of toppers, which is the whole objective of the National Education Policy (NEP)-2020.Remarking that teaching is the most respectable profession out there, the minister urged for reviving the pride that teachers have of their profession.

He then stressed the need for increasing the budget for the education sector, which at present is only 9 percent.

For the development of this sector, there is the need for external funding in addition to budgetary support.

Thus, the state government is planning to sign an MoU with Infosys and also open a Command and Control Centre for Education, for which the centre has already sanctioned Rs 5 crore, he informed, while adding that the processes will be initiated soon.

Basantakumar then said that the transfer and posting of teachers is a serious matter and as such, efforts will be made for rationalisation of the same.

Efforts will also be made to allow the teachers to take home posting, he conveyed.

Presiding over the function, Education(S) director L Nandakumar said that around 15 models selected from the exhibition will be sent to NCERT out of which the best model will be selected for a national level exhibition.

He expressed firm belief that the selected students will bring glory to the state, while appreciating the teachers who assisted the students.

Later, the winners of the exhibition were announced.

Sacred Heart Higher Secondary student Konjengbam Silky bagged the first place, while Diligent Public School, Bishnupur student Irashini Laiphrakpam and Brilliant Academy, Thoubal student Soubam Vivekananda secured second and third position respectively.

Twelve other students were also selected for consolation prizes.

All the 15 students were presented with a memento, certificate and cash prize each.

Prizes were also distributed for district level best exhibitors, state level best teacher guide and district level best teacher guide.

The closing function was also attended by Education (S/V) additional director Bisheshwar Khumukcham as guest of honour.
