Medicinal, aromatic plant saplings distributed

Imphal, March 13 2025:
Along with distributing medicinal and aromatic plant saplings to farmers under CSIR Aroma & Floriculture Mission Projects, an interaction programme for scientists and farmers was organised by CSIR-NEIST at its branch laboratory in Lamphelpat on Thursday.
The programme was attended by CSIR-NEIST, Jorhat director Dr VM Tiwari and CSIR-NEIST Branch Laboratory Lamphelpat chief scientist Dr Huidrom Birkumar as chief guest and president respectively while CAU College of Food Technology dean Prof Ng Iboyaima Singh and BRIC-IBSD Imphal director (Additional Charge) Dr Nanaocha Sharma were the guests of honour.
MSME Technology Centre, Nilakuthi deputy director Dr S Yoirentomba Meetei and CSIR-NEIST Jorhat principal scientist Dr Mohan Lal were also present as special invitees.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Huidrom Birkumar highlighted that the CSIR-NEIST branch laboratory is one of the 37 national institutes under the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR).
He said high-quality medicinal and aromatic plant saplings developed by the scientists are being distributed to farmers and entrepreneurs to help them grow and thrive.
He also mentioned that high-yielding varieties of lemongrass and citronella have been planted in various regions of the state, along with the installation of six machines for extracting essential oil from these plants.
Oil, along with insecticides/pesticides, can be produced from the medicinal and aromatic plants distributed to the farmers on Thursday, he maintained.
