Imphal, December 12 2024:
True peace can only be achieved in the state when the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) are able to return to their original homes, stated Thangmeiband MLA Khumukcham Joykisan, assuring that Thangmeiband Kendra Development Organisation (TAKDO) is committed to facilitating the resettlement of IDPs by December next year.
The MLA, who is also chief patron of TAKDO, gave the assurance while speaking at the 15th foundation day of TAKDO held at Khoyathong community hall on Thursday, in.the presence of TAKDO president Kh Nobo-kumar, advisor M Rajendro and members of different forqms of TAKDO.
According to MLA Joykisan, TAKDO had opened relief camps to assist and support the people affected and displaced by the conflict.
Acknowledging that the IDPs feel no joy in staying or eating the food at the relief camps but are yearning to return and live in peace in their ancestral homes, he affirmed that TAKDO will shoulder the responsibility of resettlement of the IDPs within December next year, specifically before the next foundation day celebration of the organisation.
For this, he sought suggestions from the public to work out possible ways and solutions.
Stating that the IDPs are all citizens of this country, he questioned as to why the citizens are being forced to live as refugees in their own country, deprived of their rights.
At the same time, he noted that while Moreh and Churachandpur are important historical-places of Manipur, the state s denizens are being denied access to the same.
"While some of the IDPs are now living in pre fabricated houses, it would be a fallacy to assume that the IDPs in relief camps are calm and living peacefully.
It would also be wrong for us to engage in entertainment while ignoring their plight," he remarked.
Joykisan then recounted how TAKDO was established, while extending his heartiest greetings to the people on occasion of Nupi Lal Day.
He called upon the mothers of the state to prevent bloodshed amongst ourselves and restore peace and subsequently development to the state, while exhorting the role of mother and women CSOs in convening talks with politicians, CSOs and all parties concerned.
Observing that the conflict has fuelled hatred and violence in the extreme; he said that there are still some people who are trying to manipulate and further escalate the conflict for their own selfish end.
He urged for identifying and uprooting such evils, adding that the present scenario is not good for the long term, while calling upon the mothers to dissuade the people from turning against each other.
Later, a two-minute silence was observed as a mark of respect to all those have lost their lives in the conflict.
