Imphal, June 10 2024:
Imagi Meira convenor Thokchom Sujata has urged for resolving the violence in Jiribam within 15 days, adding that the people do not take the indifferent attitude of the BJP government lightly.
In a joint press meet with Delhi Meetei Co-ordinating Committee, Apunba Manipur Kanba Lup and Khwairamband Ima Keithel Joint Co-ordinating Committee for Peace held at Manipur Press Club here Sunday, Sujata contended that it is an undeniable fact that the centre is in support of Kukis.
While Jiribam is on fire, the Manipur governor, chief minister, BJP party president and others are not in the state, indicating that they hold the party dearer.
It is embarrassing to see them happily attending the celebration in Delhi, while ignoring the plight of the Jiribam denizens.
As such, the government must solve the violence within 15 days, she demanded while urging the government to stop being silent on the attempts to annihilate Meeteis.
AMKIL president Lourembam Nganbi said that the failure of the state government led to the displacement of Meeteis from Churachandpur, Moreh and other areas.
A similar scenario is currently unfolding in Jiribam but the central forces failed to do anything except relocating the Meeteis from their homes and allowing the Kukis to burn down the same.
Raising suspicion if the events till date are an attempt by the central government to annihilate or drive away the Meeteis from their land, she questioned why the then Modi-led Gujarat government was able to end the communal riots in the state but the now Modi-led union government is unable to end the conflict in Manipur.
She also raised questions on the central forces supporting Kukis and as such, demanded an immediate halt to all such attempts.
Nganbi then urged for saving Jiribam, which is an important location for the state, while remarking that both the central and state governments cannot feign ignorance on the matter.
She further placed the blame on the MLAs and ministers of the state who are only looking out for their own interests instead of doing their duty to the state and its people.
