Kuki-Zo Council holds GB meeting, charts roadmap for community advocacy

The newly formed Kuki-Zo Council (KZC) held its first general body meeting at S Molnom village, Kangpokpi, with the participation of over 100 delegates, including leaders from various tribes and Inpi organisations.
Hosted by the Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU), Kangpokpi district, the meeting marked a milestone in addressing the aspirations and challenges of the Kuki-Zo community.
In a key resolution, the council decided to organise a nationwide rally across Ku-ki-Zo-dominated districts to press the central government during the ongoing winter session for their demand for a Separate Administration, specifically a Union Territory with Legislature.
The meeting also resolved to engage with the chief ministers of all north eastern states, excluding Manipur, to advocate for the grievances and aspirations of the Kuki-Zo people.
A strong condemnation was issued against the state government's alleged attempts to reopen strategic routes, such as Imphal-Kangpokpi-Senapati and Imphal-Bishnupur-Churachandpur, without addressing the underlying tensions.
Massive protests in Kuki-Zo-domiriated areas were announced to oppose these moves and safeguard community interests.
Kuki-Zo Council chairman Henlienthang Thanglet Vaiphai emphasised the council's vision for unity and effective representation, urging widespread participation in the upcoming rally.
"The nationwide rally will serve as a platform to unite the Kuki-Zo people across the nation and amplify our collective voice," he stated, adding that it would mark a historic first for the council and bring attention to the community's demand for a separate administration.
The council incorporates representatives from every tribe and Inpi organisation, with each president serving On the governing council.
An executive committee with two representatives per tribe and Inpi will guide the council's activities.
Vaiphai assured that, following the finalisation of cabinet expansion and structural consolidation, the council would take decisive actions to safeguard the interests of the Kuki-Zo community in consultation with stakeholders, including the SoO group and elected representatives.
The formation of the Kuki-Zo Council has been hailed 'as a pivotal step toward fostering unity and amplifying the community's voice at state and national levels.
The council aims to preserve traditional values, address political concerns, and imprpve the well-being of the Kuki-Zo people while establishing itself as the highest decision-making body for the community.
The council plans to announce the dates for the nationwide rally soon and is committed to ensuring that the Kuki-Zo people's aspirations remain central to the discourse on governance and rights in the region.
