Police recover another looted weapon

Ukhrul, October 08 2024:
Close on the heels of retrieving two more looted weapons on October 6, Ukhrul police have successfully recovered another weapon from the looted stock.
A dedicated team from the Ukhrul police station, led by station's officer-in-charge inspector Marchang W, successfully detected and retrieved one AK-47 rifle on Tuesday.
With this latest recovery, the total number of weapons retrieved now stands at 19 out of the 20 that were reported missing, police have confirmed, adding that only one 9mm pistol remains unaccounted for, and search operations are ongoing day and night.
The recovery operations are being conducted under the supervision of Ukhrul SP Karthik Malladi along with additional SP Ringthing Hongchui, and SDPO Hopeson Chiphang.
The police have also made a public appeal, urging anyone in possession of the remaining firearm to come forward and surrender.
On October 2, an agitated mob looted 20 firearms along with ammunition from the Ukhrul police station amid a conflict between Hunphun and Hungpung villages over a land boundary dispute.
The first breakthrough was made when police successfully recovered16 weapons out of the 20 arms on October 4, two days after the looting.
