Imphal, August 08 2015 : Tension prevailed in Thoubal district following the overpowering of three persons on suspicion of being vehicle lifters.

Two bikes were also torched in the melee.

In quick retaliation, another youth was also overpowered and his scooter was torched.

However, MLAs, police and community leaders pacified the situation.

Reports said that on Friday night some villagers of Thoubal Leishangthem overpowered three persons, Sabir, Jakir, Basir on the suspicion that they were vehicle lifters.

Another accomplice, Sarup Khan managed to escape.

All of them are from Irong Umang.

Two bikes in which they were coming were also torched by the villagers.

The youths were handed over to the Mayang Imphal Police Station.

Meanwhile, in an apparent retaliatory strike one person from Wabagai who was coming in a scooter on Saturday was intercepted at Irong Ichin the scooter was torched after being overpowered.

When tension mounted, the Wabagai MLA Fazur Rahim, the agriculture minister Abdul Nasir from the Lilong constituency, police officials held a meeting after which normalcy was restored.
