Scribes condole demise of TPC's Satyajit

Journalist community in the state, under the aegis of All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU), condoled the untimely demise of The People's Chronicle assistant editor Satyajit Usham, and offered floral tributes to his photo in a memorial event held at Manipur Press Club on Monday.
Satyajit Usham of Thangmeiband Yumnam Leikai died due to cardiac arrest atop the Cheiraoching on Sunday around 2.30 pm.
Though he was rushed to RIMS by some trekkers, doctors on duty declared him, brought dead.
He is survived by his wife and two sons.
With a master's degree in English from Delhi University, he had worked in diverse capacity in different daily newspapers of the state including Matamgi Yakairol, The Sangai Express, Huiyen Lanpao English edition and The People's Chronicle, where he worked till his last moment.
He was also recipient of the Best Editor Award in 2013 while in Huiyen Lanpao.
On Monday, journalists and family members of the late journalist gathered at Manipur Press Club and offered floral tributes to his photo at the Journalists' Memorial Pillar, Manipur Press Club.
It was followed by a condolence meeting co-chaired by AMWJU president Bijoy Kakchingtabam and Editors' Guild Manipur (EGM) president Khogendra Khomdram.
Speaking on the occasion, The People's Chronicle editor Sagolsem Imo expressed that the untimely demise of Satyajit would be an irreparable loss for the daily, especially the editorial team as he used to shoulder more than half of the workload.
He was a sincere and dedicated journalist, who had cordial relationship with his colleagues, both seniors and juniors.
In his brief speech, Khogendra Khomdram recalled his tryst with Satyajit Usham while in The Sangai Express, stating that he never heard any negative comment about 'Satya' from anybody during his entire career as a journalist.
His demise is not a loss for just The People's Chronicle but also for the entire journalist community, he said.
Bijoy Kakchingtabam also recounted that he worked with Satyajit Usham both in The Sangai Express and The People's Chronicle.
He was a man of integrity, who did his works with sincerity and dedication, Bijoy added.
Later, a two minutes' silence was observed in honour of the late journalist while praying for his soul to rest in peace in the heavenly abode.
