Imphal, August 07 2015 :
Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) staged a sit-in-protest on Friday to condemn the recent suspension of 25 Congress MPs during the ongoing Parliament session.
It may be mentioned that the Parliament suspended the said members for five days for their alleged 'un-parliamentary conduct' in the House.
The protest was held at the entrance gate of Congress Bhawan at BT Road, Imphal.
MPCC president and Deputy CM Gaikhangam, Council of ministers, MLAs and office bearers of MPCC attended the sit-in.
Workers of Seva Dal and Mahila Morcha of Congress also joined the protest.
Speaking to media persons on the sidelines, Gaikhangam said, "The act of suspending 25 Congress MPs during the session is indeed unfortunate and shows the high-handedness of the present Central Government.

The decision shows that the BJP Government at the Centre is planning to run an Opposition-less Parliament session, he said.
Commenting on the present ILP agitation, Gaikhangam said, "A final stage of the present ILP protest is likely to be seen in the next two-three days.
The Government is doing its best to fulfill the wishes of the people by 'framing a law' that can protect the indigenous people of Manipur" .
He also appealed to the general public to raise their voice to fulfill their demand calmly and in a peaceful manner.
On the other hand, Gaikhangam re-iterated the Government's earlier announcement that the Centre did not divulge any information to the State Governments of Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh and Assam regarding the peace accord that was signed recently between the Government of India and NSCN (IM) .
The accord was a milestone in the Indo-Naga peace process, but at the same time it has also created an uneasy atmosphere especially in Manipur since its signing.
Gaikhangam further added that the state Government has asked the Centre to provide a full text of the accord and blamed the BJP-led NDA Government for the present state of confusion created by the 'covert peace accord' .
