Imphal, February 05 2025:
Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) has strongly condemned the recent report about an FIR filed against its president Ch Ajang Khongsai in connection with the mob attack on security forces during the latter's poppy destruction operation, while terming the report as 'fake news' .
In a statement, KIM said that such misinformation is a calculated attempt to tarnish the reputation of not only Ajang Khongsai but also the broader Kuki community.
In sync with the firm stand against poppy cultivation, considering its serious implications, directives were issued in the past urging community members to refrain from engaging in poppy cultivation, subsequently resulting in sharp decrease in such activities, KIM claimed.
It asserted that portraying the Inpi president as a promoter of poppy cultivation is blatant misrepresentation aimed at serving the false narrative of the state government.
Ajang Khongsai is unaware of the incident that took place at his native village Lhungjang on January 31, as he was out of station due to health-related issues.
KIM emphasised that any claim suggesting his participation in the event lacks credible evidence and support.
In response to the spread of fake news, KIM demanded a public apology from the social media platforms and media houses concerned while cautioning that if apology is not tendered, it will urge the authorities concerned to take necessary actions against those perpetuating the false allegations and propaganda.
