Imphal, February 05 2024:
A farewell programme for Inspector General of Assam Rifles (IGAR-South) Major General Rajan Sharawat was held at the KLP of Assam Rifles in Moreh on Monday morning.
Presidents and executive members of Hill Tribal Council (HTC) Moreh, Tamil Sangam Moreh and other CSOs attended the farewell programme.
Addressing the gathering, Major General Sharawat urged the community leaders to contribute their best towards maintaining peace, law and order in the town.
While expressing regret over his failure in restoring peace in the town, he confided that leaders are chalking up measures in Delhi to resolve the crisis.
Keeping the border town tense may upset the Central government, he cautioned while urging the community leaders to ensure peaceful co-existence among people of different communities once the crisis is resolved.
The general officer also reportedly told the president of HTC Moreh that keeping the town tense and creating unrest will bring nothing good and asked him if they will get their demand by denying water and goods to security forces.
Rajan also reportedly asked the HTC president to identify hijackers of a water tanker.
Regarding HTC president's demand to shift the commando personnel deployed near SBI and Punjab National Bank branches towards the KLP, the IGAR (S) told him that the responsibility for management of state security forces lies with the government and Assam Rifles has no authority on it.
On complaints about power blackout in Churachandpur, the Major General told them that the blackout is due to fault in the transmission line, which is being repaired, and asked HTC president to convey to CSOs in Churachandpur to refrain from creating tension out of the situation.
