Imphal, June 03 2019: A combined team of Bishnupur commando and 5/11 GR, arrested three cadres of Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF), including a ZUF army chief, and seized numerous live ammunition rounds from Nungsai village, under Bishnupur PS today evening.

According to police source, acting on specific information regarding the presence of some ZUF cadres at Nungsai village, a combined team of Bishnupur commando and column of 5/11 GR rushed to the spot and launched a search operation.

During the operation, three cadres of Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) were arrested from Nungsai village at around 4 pm, said the police source.

Among three arrested active cadres, one was identified as ZUF army chief Arei Thoitak alias Nickson (44) s/o (L) Thoitaksong Chiru of Upper Bungte Chiru village and 24 live ammunition rounds of AK assault rifle and 7 live ammunition rounds of 303 self loading rifle, were also recovered.

The other cadres of ZUF were identified as self styled major Simeon Kharam alias RK (39) s/o Laisongam Kharam of Karam Pallal village and Kalandi David Gangmei alias KD (44) s/o (L) Dimdailung of Tupul village (presently staying at Namching village) During preliminary interrogation, the arrested individuals revealed that Simeon Kharam and Kalandi David Gangmei, got their military training at Nungleiband and Lapok respectively They were later handed over to Bishnupur PS along with the seized items.
