Clashes break out in Singjamei, Wangkhem ACs

As the election to the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly draws closer, violent incidents of clash among the rival candidates and their workers continue to take place in different parts of the state.
On Thursday, a clash broke out between supporters of BJP candidate Y Khemchand and NPP's Romen following an incident that occurred on Wednesday night.
Sources said that some workers of Y Khemchand allegedly threatened workers of Romen at gun point while the latter were having a feast on Wednesday night at Oinam Thingel area.
Consequently, a large number of NPP supporters staged a sit-in protest on Thursday.
At the same time, BJP supporters also organised a sit-in protest near the NPP's protest site over an alleged incident of NPP workers threatening BJP workers on Wednesday night.
As the two parties organised the protests close to one another, the situation became tense and resulted in a violent slugfest.
Later, police controlled the situation and forced the protesters to wind up their agitation.
Police are keeping vigil in the area to prevent further unwanted incidents.
On the other hand, Phouden Youth Club (PYC) has strongly condemned the violent tussle that took place between two rival candidates in Wangkhem assembly constituency on Thursday and demanded both parties to have an understanding with the club.
According to PYC secretary Md Salimuddin, BJP candidate Yumnam Nabachandra and NPP candidate Kharibam Jiban came to Phouden Mayai Leikai to attend a wedding ceremony.
The two candidates had a brief conversation at the wedding venue and turned into a heated argument.
At that time, one of the workers of Nabachandra whisked out a gun and threatened Jiban.
The local people present there controlled the situation and made them to leave the place.
Later, PYC invited both parties for a meeting so as to bring an understanding.
Jiban and his supporters came for the meeting but Nabachandra did not, he said while demanding the latter to come for settling the issue.
