Housing project baited after Langol shutdown

Imphal, November 02 2021:
In protest against construction of a housing complex by PDA on the playground located between Langol National Game village Zone 2 and 3, clubs operating between Punshi Khul to Laimanai and UCM Meitei Langol unit imposed a total shutdown on Tuesday.
The shutdown, however, was relaxed after few hours as construction work stopped from Tuesday and authorities promised to hold talk with the chief minister by November 10 .
Clubs of Punshi Khul to Laimanai and UCM Meitei Langol unit announced a total shutdown from 5am to 6pm Tuesday against construction of housing complex on the local playground.
Accordingly, local people came out in large number on the road to impose total shutdown in the area from early Tuesday morning.
Upon getting the news, large number of Imphal West district police went to the area and tried to push back the protesters which led to a brief scuffle between the two sides.
Later, the shutdown was relaxed after an understanding was reached to the effect of halting the construction work till holding talk with authorities and the construction work stopped immediately.
Regarding the protest, UCM Meitei Langol unit president Haobijam Shamu told media persons that 'ocal people do not want construction of housing complex on the playground.
They want to keep the playground intact.
Despite repeated reminders to authority concerned, construction of housing complex continued without giving any information to local people and this compelled local people to impose the total shutdown as announced earlier, he said, adding that the shutdown has been relaxed after construction work stopped and authorities promised to hold talk with the chief minister on the matter within November 10.He also warned that local clubs and UCM Meitei Langol unit may even impose state wide total shutdown if authority concerned fail to take positive action.
