Imphal, November 02 2012:
Against the backdrop of the prevailing situation and problem in the Zeliangrong areas particularly in Tamenglong district, the Zeliangrong Youth Front (ZYF) of Assam, Manipur and Nagaland has requested the concerned authorities for taking up necessary urgent steps to ensure safety and security of lives of the citizens and properties in the Zeliangrong areas.
In a memorandum submitted to the Prime Minister of India, the Union Home Minister of India , the Governor of Manipur and to the Deputy Chief Minister and the Home Minister of Manipur on Friday, ZYF (AMN) stated that people living in the Zeliangrong areas particularly in Tamenglong district are facing immense hardship due to frequent fighting between the different armed groups.
"The purpose of posting of Assam Rifles, Army and other Central forces in the areas is to protect and safeguard the properties and lives of the innocent public but these forces are silently observing the situation as good spectators like of a drama-play", the memorandum alleged while adding that it has created sense of suspicion that whether the different armed groups frequently fighting is due to orchestration, instigation and deliberate plan of the Government of India.
Stating that the prolonged armed groups fighting in the said areas should be the full responsibility of the Government of India, ZYF (AMN) further urged to the Prime Minister of the country to intervene into the matter by working out a specific strategy by inviting the different armed groups to sit across the table so as to end the fighting at the earliest.
