Imphal, November 01 2024:
Tamenglong MLA Janghemlung Panmei has revealed that Meetei, Kuki and Naga legislators have been holding formal as well as informal talks to resolve the crisis in the state and bring peace at the earliest.
The MLA disclosed about collective efforts of the legislators to normalise the situation in response to media queries on the side-lines of a Get-Together-cum-felicitation programme of Panmei Kaikhuang (Assam, Manipur and Nagaland) held at Tarung village, Thangmeiband in Imphal West district on Friday.
MLA Janghemlung said: "It is impossible to bring solution to the on-going conflict within short notice but sooner or later peace will prevail as the state government is putting in all efforts to restore normalcy at the earliest" .
On the peace efforts, the MLA also maintained that the government is not favouring any particular community, but committed to holistic development of the state.
While expressing gratitude to the organising committee for organising the get-together, Janghemlung said that even though the Panmei Laikhuang clan of Rongmei tribe are scattered in different parts of Manipur, Assam and Nagaland, they have common origin.
Calling the Rongmei/Naga tribe peace loving community, the MLA maintained that the tribe has been backing all efforts of different sections of society to bring peace in the strife-torn state.
On the other hand, Organising Committee convenor Panmei Makengpou conveyed that the programme was especially organised to showcase the Panmei clan settling in Manipur, Assam and Nagaland as brothers and sisters having common ancestors, and also to deliberate on steps for cementing the bond among the clan and extend assistance in times of need.
He exuded hope that the programme would also set an example of unity among the people to uphold integrity of the state.
The programme was also attended by Panmei Kaikhuang president Pouchalin Panmei, Income Tax Department, North East Region principal chief commissioner Chaitali Panmei, National Academy of Customs Indirect Tax and Narcotics principal director general Gaigondin Panmei, and Tamenglong ADC care taker chairman Namsinrei Panmei as members on the dais.
