Imphal, August 01 2021:
Maintaining that the present criteria for the Chief Minister's Covid-19 Affected Livelihood Support Scheme Will leave out several people affected by the pandemic in different categories such as widows and differently abled persons, Congress MLA Ak Mirabai has called upon the government to include all the vulnerable sections of the society and extend the deadline for a month if the government truly wants to provide livelihood support to the affected people.
Speaking on the occasion of distributing of health cards to beneficiaries of Patsoi AC for the second phase on Sunday, Mirabai noted that the deadline issued by the social welfare department is August 7 and the public will get only four days to submit their application forms since the government had already imposed total curfew till August 3.Submission of the application forms by those in the eligible categories in just four days would be chaotic and they will definitely face various hardships.
Some may even need to get their documents from the government authority first in order to submit the application and as such, it would be appropriate to extend the deadline unless the government wants to implement the scheme just for the namesake.
On the other hand, the eligible categories defined by the government missed out several categories such as differently abled persons and widows, who are among the worst affected groups.
The government should include these categories along with other groups of people, who have lost their sources of livelihood due to the pandemic so that the benefits of the scherrle reach the genuinely affected people, she said.
Regarding the measures taken up to break the transmission chain and isolating the infected people in Patsoi AC, Mirabai said that she has been contributing at her best level by running two CHICs, where Covid positive people without proper facilities for home isolation are kept and looked after on her own expense.
The measure helped to a great extent in minimising the impact of the pandemic.
Medicines and treatment alone cannot fight the pandemic.
Public cooperation by following relevant SOPs and Covid appropriate behaviour is the main factor to reduce the transmission, she stressed.
After completing mass testing drives, she along with the health department has been organising mass vaccination drives in different localities apart from the permanent vaccination centre at PHSC Khamnam Bazar, she said and urged the public to get their vaccine shots as soon as possible to stay safe from the infectious disease.
Stating that there are several health cards without address and she has not been able to identify them, the MLA appealed to the people of her constituency to contact.her if they are not getting their health cards even after submitting requisite documents.
Changangei ZP member S Marjit and Patsoi Block Congress Committee president L Kumar BCC leaders also attended the function among others.
