Will revise policy for differently-abled: Sports Minister

Youth Affairs and Sports minister Govindas Konthoujam has announced that the existing state policy on sports will be revised to better facilitate the differently abled sportspersons.
He made the announcement during the distribution function of Indus Towers Scholarship' organised by Spastic Society Manipur at its Langthabal Kunja Tapokpi Bazar complex on Wednesday.
The minister said that Manipur is famed all over the world because of the contribution of its sportspersons and artistes engaged in art and culture.
Taking this into consideration, the state government had formulated a sports policy for the state some time ago.
However, there is the need to revise the policy.
Thus, while revising this policy, efforts will be made to incorporate certain provisions for the differently-abled people, he assured.
Govindas then appreciated the work done by Spastic Society till date, while add ing that the differently-abled people have as much right to live in the society as the general populace and as such, should never be discouraged or discriminated upon.
We should all work together to give the best contribution to both the society and the country, he asserted.
Regarding the construction of an indoor stadium to enable the differently able people to get sports training, the minister assured of consulting with Langthabal AC MLA Karam Shyam, who is the one to submit the proposal.
During the function, minister Govindas and MLA Shyam distributed scholar ships to 31 differently-abled students.
