MLA Mirabai fears COVID-19 third wave in state

Imphal, October 31 2021: Patsoi MLA Ak Mirabai has urged the state government to strengthen medical infrastructure firm enough to face the third wave of COVID-19 pandemic while maintaining that lack of preparation before the second wave struck the state led to suffering of the people to the highest extent.

Two Community Home Isolation Centre (CHIC) opened for Patsoi AC at State Academy of Training, Takyel and St Joseph higher secondary school, Sangaiprou ceased operation on Sunday with a closing function held at MLA Ak Mirabai's residence at Toubungkhok in the presence of Patsoi SDO, SDC, CMO Imphal West, doctors, nurses, paramedical staff, ASHA workers and CHIC volunteers.

Addressing the gathering, Mirabai said the state faced severe second wave of COVID-19 pandemic much due to ill-preparedness to strengthen infrastructures and carelessness on part of the government despite knowing that the virus would strike again after the first wave subsided.

Accordingly, people of the state faced much pain and suffering due to unavailability of oxygen and ICU beds and inadequate doctors and nurses.

Scores of people lost their lives due to inadequacies in hospitals including at JNIMS, RIMS and district hospitals, she said and appealed to the government to do the needful so that the third wave of the pandemic could be contained and the horror of second Wave prevented.

She also recalled how people of Patsoi confronted the second wave of COVID-19 in coordination with doctors, nurses, paramedical staff and local volunteers.

The function was also attended by Patsoi Kendra Advisory Committee president So-rokhaibam Purno Singh, Takyel ZP member Ng Bimola Devi, Changangei ZP member S Marjit, Sapam Leikai GP pradhan A Biswarjit, Thounaojam Leikai GP pradhan N Ratan, up-pradhan, ward members and others.

Health workers, volunteers and donors who took big role in successful running of both the CHIC were also honoured and presented gifts during the function.
