Kakching, October 31 2014 : A team of forest officials led by Range Officer of Kakching Range Office M Munal along with the volunteers of JFMC Tekcham seized several nets used for catching birds from the lakes at Tekcham area.

Talking to media persons today afternoon, Range Officer Munal said that migratory birds from other countries have begun to arrive in the State with the onset of winter season.

Some people at Tekcham area are trying to catch the migratory birds from the lakes using nets.

As many as 30 nets measuring 30 metres each were seized from the lakes.

The poachers could have caught not less than 150 birds using those nets, he noted.

The Range Officer further said that poaching is illegal in India and the poachers are punishable under the provisions of Wildlife Protection Act, 1972 .

Munal also appealed to all to stop poaching and help to protect the endangered flora and fauna of the State.
