Anganwadi workers demand payment

Imphal, October 31 2012:
Protesting the non-payment of honourium for ten months to Anganwadi workers and helpers, members of the Anganwadi Workers and Helpers Union, Manipur tried to storm the office of the Social Welfare Department at North AOC in Imphal, near 2nd Bn Manipur Rifles today.
Police foiled their effort and stopped them in front of RK Sanatombi School.
Later, four representatives, including the Vvce-president of the union were allowed to submit a copy of the memorandum to the Director of Social Welfare Department and Social Welfare Minister, AK Mirabai.
The charter of demands includes payment of honorarium for 10 months and bonus before November 5, failing which serious form of agitation to be pursued and not to discard the workers after reaching 60 years of age, pension benefit as done in other states, formation of Anganwadi Level Monitoring and Support Committee (ALMSC) as unworkable, since there are villages without headman, chief, chairman, etc.
