Imphal, December 31 2021:
Sessions Judge, Imphal West on Friday reserved its judgment on the objection petition against the anticipatory bail plea filed by the accused person(s) in a case taken up by Singjamei PS in connection with the abduction of a JNU research scholar from Thongju on December 12.It will pronounce its judgment on January 6 next year.
As per the case dossier, the young victim was brought back by the accused person's family to her paternal home after an alleged elopement.
However, upon reaching her home, the victim revealed to her family that she did not consent to the elopement and was instead confined by the accused, identified as RK Master s/o RK Sanajaoba of Mayang Imphal Konchak and his family.
The victim also made a written complaint to Singjamei PS in this regard, wherein she alleged that the accused lured her out on the pretext of having lunch and then kept her confined in his house.
One Amom Soman s/o Amom Ibungo and Ningthemcha ningol Moirangthem ongbi Landhoni w/o Mohen of the same locality assisted the accused in physically assaulting her and also threatened her with Keina Katpa (forced marriage) and rape.
As such, Singjamei PS registered a case against the trio under Section 366, 342, 354, 34 and 511, 376 of IPC.
Amidst this, people from the victim's locality along with Thongju Part-II Meira Paibi and VLF members staged a protest in front of Cheirap Court on Friday, demanding the authority concerned not to grant bail to the accused people and award strict punishments as per the law of the land.
Speaking on the sidelines, a Meira Paibi member named Ningthoujam Abhai recounted that the victim herself had stated in the media that she did not give her consent to the forced elopement.
It is unreasonable to force a young woman into marriage after tricking her to go for lunch and then confining her in a house for the night, while using the excuse of elopement.
The accused abducted the victim and tried to force her to agree to marrying him despite being aware of her objection.
Thus, it is condemnable to grant bail to an alleged kidnapper, she remarked and urged the authority concerned to look into the matter and not grant bail to any of the accused people.
