Imphal, October 30 2024:
Diabetes Hospital and Research Centre, Porompat Soibam Leikai has strongly condemned alleged attempt by DESAM volunteers to forcibly cease operation of the private hospital.
Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Hospital's managing director Dr M Dhanabir contended that over the past few days, DESAM volunteers visited the hospital and insisted on shut down based on an unrelated order issued by the Medical Directorate in 2023 .
Dr Dhanabir clarified that the hospital operates independently of the Medical Directorate, as it functions as a health centre focusing on naturopathy, homeopathy, and Ayush treatments specifically for diabetes patients.
He added that the hospital is registered under a trust named Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Social Mission, and not under the Medical Directorate.
While mentioning that, to date, the hospital has treated over 3000 patients, he expressed concern that the attempt to shut down the hospital seemed to be at the behest of certain individuals with vested interests.
He urged that such actions should not be repeated.
Though activities of DESAM for welfare of the student community is commendable, it is regrettable that the students' organisation overstepped its boundaries.
As such, in condemning its actions, the hospital has lodged a police complaint against DESAM, he disclosed.
