State, central forces occupy 'Kuki' bunkers

In view of the continuous attacks on Sanasabi, Thamnapokpi, Yaingangpokpi, Santikhongba, and Sabungkhok Khunou since December 24 from the upper reaches, combined team of police, Indian army, BSF and CRPF ventured into and took over Thamnapokpi Uyokching and Yaingangpokpi Uyokching on Sunday.
Around 8 am Sunday, the teams headed to Thamnapokpi Uyokching and Yaingangpokpi Uyokching to conduct search operations, in view of the continuous attacks and construction of bunkers by suspected Kuki militants.
However, Kuki womenfolk tried to prevent the security forces from entering the area.
The forces broke through the barricade and positioned themselves in the bunkers, which were previously occupied by suspected militants.
No more firing incidents were reported thereafter.
It may be mentioned here since December 24, suspected Kuki militants have been raining bullets and bombs in Meetei areas such as Sanasabi, Thamnapokpi, Yaingangpokpi, Santikhongbal and Sabungkhok Khunou.
At least four people including a media person and a special commando of Manipur police were injured in the attacks.
As such, on Saturday, central forces attempted to conduct operation in Yaingangpokpi Uyokching, Thamnapokpi Uyokching and Saimol village where suspected Kuki militants had constructed bunkers and temporary shelters.
However, the central forces were blocked by a large crowd of Kuki women upon reaching Simol village and prevented from venturing any further.
