Meira activists storm assembly complex, four detained

Imphal, December 29 2023: Demanding legal action against 10 Kuki MLAs openly scheming to disintegrate Manipur by insisting on separate administration, activists of Imagi Meira stormed the Manipur Legislative Assembly complex on Friday consequently resulting in four of them picked up by police.

At about 11.30am Friday, activists of the women vigilante group stormed the main gate of the assembly complex and demanded reply to the memorandum the group had submitted to the Speaker on November 20 .

The memorandum demanded legal action against 10 Kuki MLAs, who demanded separate administration.

As the women activists attempted to meet the Speaker, police forced them out from the area and also picked up four of them.

They are Imagi Meira co-convener Maibam Somi, publicity secretary RK Linthoi, treasurer Hidangmayum Bigyani and finance secretary Yaikhom Binodini.

Later, the activists stormed Lamphel police station demanding release of the four leaders.

Imagi Meira media advisor Asem Romita told media persons outside Lamphel PS that they went to meet Speaker but police arrested four leaders who are voicing for keeping intact territorial integrity of Manipur.

She also demanded immediate and unconditional release of the four women leaders.
