SHRI successfully transplants footballer Ramananda's kidney

National footballer Ningthoujam Ramananda Meitei, who had been diagnosed with End-Stage Renal Disease since July 2020, had his kidney treated at Shija Hospitals & Research Institute (SHRI) with successful transplantation on December 15.A release by SHRI business development deputy manager Takhellambam Premkumar said the transplantation team comprised director and consultant nephrologist Dr Guliver Potsangbam, consultant urologist and renal transplant surgeon Dr Somorendro Paonam, consultant general & laparoscopic surgeon Dr Devendra Khwairakpam and Dr Mahele Maharabam and the Critical Care team at SHRI.
Ramananda was admitted to the hospital on December 14 and underwent Live Renal Allograft (Kidney) Transplantation the next day.
His wife is the donor and her kidney was removed through laparoscopic nephrectomy (keyhole surgery) .
A total of 196 Haemodialysis were conducted since the diagnosis of the kidney disease.
He had an uneventful intraoperative period.
His post-operative recovery was satisfactory.
A dedicated team of critical care experts and staff made sure that both the patient and donor remained safe from COVID-19 infection.
The patient and the donor recovered well and were discharged in a stable condition on December 21 .
This was the 59th kidney transplantation performed by the hospital, said the release.
It also mentioned that SHRI is the only private hospital in the state with a full-time nephrologist & urologists and is recognised as a referral centre for kidney transplants by the governments of Manipur, Mizoram and Nagaland.
The hospital is equipped with the cutting-edge dialysis technologies like CRRT, SLED, etc., with 31 dialysis machines.
The dialysis facility at the hospital provides high-quality, patient-centric haemodialysis with double RO water, peritoneal dialysis, and CAPD.
The hospital strictly follows the guidelines for transplant and no unethical practices are encouraged in any form.
The hospital plans to start kidney transplantation from deceased or cadaveric donors in the near future, the release added.
