Sit-ins decry abduction bid, assault

A sit-in protest was staged at Nambol Bazar Hao Keithel on Friday against the attempt to abduct one Oinam Chandrakumar Singh (43), son of O Yaima Singh of Thanga Samukol, presently staying at Nambol Makha Leikai and running a chicken centre at Nambol Thongkha.
Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of the protest organised by Nambol Bazar Shopkeepers' Association, Nambol Bazar Vendors' Association and United Protection Committee (UPC), Nambol, Chandrakumar recounted four persons showed up at his shop around 3 pm Thursday in a numberless grey coloured Hyundai Creta car and asked him to accompany them for a talk.
On being told that the 'talk' be held at his shop, the four tried to shove him into the car at gunpoint and gagged his mouth.
However, the unknown persons fled with the mobile as he stood the ground and firmly resisted intention to whisk him away, Chandrakumar said.
Chipping in, UPC convener Th Lamjingba decried rise in instances of extortions and threats at a time when the state is in turmoil.
Meanwhile, a sit-in protest was organised by Ningthoukhong Apunba Meira Paibi at Ningthoukhong Keithel on Friday to denounce assaulted on twins RK Amarjit (28) and RK Chourjit, son of RK Gopeshor of Ningthoukhong Ward No.8 Oknarel Leikai, by two-three unknown persons around 11:30 am Ihursday.
The twins were abandoned in Kha-Potshangbam area after assault.
Speaking to media persons, one RK Sachi advised those involved in assaulting Amarjit and Chourjit to clarify the reason thereof within five day.
The agitators held placards inscribed with slogans 'Who will you beat tomorrow', 'Clarify why Amarjit and Chourjit were assaulted within 5 days', 'Should anyone be beaten-up without disclosing reason,' etc.
