PMGSY road works likely soon

Even as the State is reportedly facing a financial crunch, construction of as many as 55 roads covering a distance of 890.735 kilometres under the PMGSY may start soon.
The 55 roads are all IVRs (Inter Village Roads) to be constructed under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana-III (B-I 2023-24) across 9 districts.
The 55 roads include 10 in Senapati district, 9 in Imphal East, 9 in Thoubal, 7 in Imphal West, 5 in Bishnupur, 5 in Chandel, 5 in Ukhrul, 3 in Churachandpur and 2 in Tamenglong district, said sources.
The 55 roads covering 890.735 kilometres will be constructed at a cost of Rs 32,798.92 lakh.
The maintenance of the roads for 5 years after completion of the construction will cost Rs 3,736.31 lakh.
The construction and maintenance cost together will cost Rs 36,535.23 lakh.
Sources said the funds for construction of the roads have been sanctioned by the Ministry of Road Development, Government of India, and tender for the work has been floated under the State Rural Engineering Department, Manipur State Rural Roads Development Agency (MSRRDA) .
The tender process will soon be completed and the works on the 55 roads will begin this working season.
The roads will be completed within 18 months, said sources.
Further, the Ministry of Rural Development, Government has approved construction of 48 roads under the PMGSY-III (B-II 2023-24) .
The length of the 48 roads is 300 kilometres, said the sources.
