Novel - Urmila released

Manipur Sahitya Parishad, Jiribam released "Urmila" a novel by S Binodini Singha at the conference hall of Jiri News Network, Babupura, Jiribam Sunday.
Retd Principal Jiribam Hr Sec School - S Maniton Singh, president, Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, Jiribam - S Khogendra Singh and gen secy Manipuri Short Story Society, India - Khaidem Kanta Singh attended the event as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Speaking at the event, S Maniton Singh stated that he is concern with the dwindling number of readership.
Youth and students should inculcate reading habit to gain vast knowledge available and grow themselves, he said.
S Khogendra Singh, president, Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, Jiribam highlighted the impact of the shift from Bengali script to Meitei Mayek on readership.
The younger generation now know only Meitei Mayek and they are not able to read most of the existing books which were published in Bengali script, he said.
As the future readers know only the indigenous script, more books in Meitei Mayek will break this barrier, he said.
Khaidem Kanta Singh encouraged all especially writers to use indigenous scrip while writing novels and other books to preserve and promote the language and script.
Many writers at the event recited poems as a part of the event.
