Imphal, April 26 2015 :
Loktak Hut Dwellers Welfare Association (LHDWA) is pained by the deterioration of the condition of Loktak lake day by day.
Appeals for immediate intervention by the authorities are made to save this dying lake.
The deterioration has been caused by various factors in the process increasing the pollution level thereby heralding untimely extinction of the lake.
LHDWA has claimed that the heaps of pollutants brought down by rivers and streams and the man-made biomasses built for the purpose of catching fish have contributed to the increasing shallowness of the Lake.
LHDWA in the press release issued by its Secretary, Kh Amuba states that the State Government had earlier evicted the 519 fisherman living in the huts built on the biomass.
However in the process 258 fishermen's huts were burnt without even informing the fishermen.
Till date they have not received any aid or compensation from the government.
Hence LHDWA is appealing to provide aid to these displaced fishermen.
It is also seeking supports from all civil organizations, clubs and individuals in saving the Loktak lake.
