Kangpokpi, July 24 2014:
With incident of crimes against North Easterners in the national Capital burgeoning day by day, All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM) has expressed its concern over the repeated racial attacks on North Easterners in the national capital.
The Delhi Police motto "With You For You Always" seems to be a joke", asserted a statement of Emboi Serto, President ATSUM and asked if the elite Delhi Police cannot protect innocent North Easterners in the national capital with so many patrol teams, how police of northeast can east protect others in the vast hilly region.
The chief of the student body said that any kind of racism must be dealt with sternly and systematically.
ATSUM also appeals to the concerned authority to give befitting punishment to the guilty who mercilessly attacked Akha Salouni of Tungjoy, Senapati in the intervening night of July 21 and 22 which led to his death.
No amount of consolation will be accepted every time people from this region are discriminated, humiliated, attacked, raped and killed, warned ATSUM.
Emboi Serto continued that even after the committee constituted after the killing of Nido Tania, a 19 year old from Arunachal Pradesh submitted its report and suggestion, the government seems to adamant on not doing its duties to protect the Indian citizens from this part of the region.
While appealing to all north eastern citizens staying outside their respective states to be on alert and organize seminars and workshops to enlighten the people about various safety measures and emergency security apparatuses, ATSUM pointed out that it is also time for the state government to seriously think of ways and means to protect its citizen from being attacked in other Indian cities especially in the national capital.
