Awareness prog, health camp mark Girl Child Day

Department of Social Welfare organised a one-day awareness programme on "Illegal Adoption, Child Marriage and POCSO Act" in connection with the observance of National Girl Child Day 2023 at Tribal Research Institute, here, on Tuesday.
The programme aimed at sensitising the frontline workers on rights and issues related to girl child was participated by about 100 An-ganwadi Workers from ICDS Projects of Imphal West and Imphal East districts.
The importance of providing education to every girl child to empower them and for the development of a good society was highlighted during the programme by resource persons as well as the dignitaries.
The programme was attended by deputy director (CP) Konsam Saroja and programme manager (SARA) Thongam Gyanilaxmi, legal-cum-probation officer Reena Chanu Moirangthem and programme officer (SCPS) Mala Lisham as resource persons.
They briefed the participants on issues such as Illegal Adoption, Child Marriage and POCSO Act.
A pledge on protection and safeguard of the rights of girl child was also taken, by the participants during the programme.
Bharat Vikas Parishad (BVP) Manipur Prant also observed the National Girl Child Day - 'Abhyodaya' at Seloi Hindi High School (Bal Vidya Mandir), a school adopted by Gadadhar Abhyu-daya Prakalpa - Ramakrishna Mission, Imphal.
The school is located at Upper Charhajare in Kangpokpi district.
According to BVP Manipur Prant, the programme was attended by BVP Mahila Bal Vikas national project manager Joybi Heikrujam, regional secretary (Sampark) Dr Nongthombam Muhindro Singh, Ramakrishna Mission, Manipur's Swami Devadeve-shananda and founder of the school Khageshar Sharma as An anaemia screening camp was also conducted'as part of the event during which around 147 people including children and housewives were screened for Haemoglobin.
Sanitary pads, stationery items and health supplements were also distributed to participating children, adolescent girls and lactating mothers.
As part of the Beti Bachad Beti Padhao scheme, National Girl Child Day was also observed jointly by Bishnupur district administration and Integrated Child Development Scheme Cell Bishnupur at Panchayat Resource Centre Hal located within the Bishnupur mini secretariat complex, on Tuesday.
Speaking at the observance as the chief guest, Bishnupur DC L Bikram Singh stressed the need for support and encouragement by all to Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme, as it is being implemented with the objective of saving, educating and supporting girl child.
Four students who scored high marks in class X and XII examinations and five girls who excelled in sports were presented cash prizes and certificates on the occasion.
Presided over by Bishnupur CMO L Raichandra Singh, the observance function was also attended by ICDS Cell Bishnupur district programme officer Th Shanti-bala Devi as guest of honour.
